Privacy

This site sets no cookies and shows no ads. It counts visits anonymously and reports its own errors, and both stop if your browser asks it to.

What this page covers

This page is about appbits.dev itself. Each app has its own privacy page, because each one handles different data:

Visit counts (Umami)

To see which pages are read and where visitors come from, the site sends anonymous counts to Umami: the page address (including campaign tags such as utm_source=reddit), the page title, the site that linked here, your browser's language, screen size, browser, operating system and device type, which links and buttons you use (opening an app, installing an extension, the contact email), how far you scroll on longer pages, and how fast the page loaded and responded.

Umami sees your IP address when your browser connects, as any server does. It uses it, together with your browser's user agent and a salt that changes regularly, to estimate an approximate location and count unique visitors, and doesn't store it. There are no cookies, and no way to follow you to other sites.

Error reports (Sentry)

When something breaks on this site, an error report goes to Sentry (EU data region): the error, where in the code it happened, the page address, the page that linked here, your browser and operating system, and the last few things that happened on the page before it (pages opened, links clicked, requests the page made, console messages). Sentry is set not to store IP addresses. There's no screen recording and no session tracking.

Turning it off

Neither Umami nor Sentry is loaded if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. Turn one of them on in your browser's privacy settings and nothing is sent. Ad blockers usually block both as well.

Theme choice

The footer link switches the site between dark and light. If your pick differs from your browser's own setting, it is saved in your browser's local storage as appbits-theme, so the next visit opens the same way. It stays on your device and is not sent anywhere. Otherwise nothing is saved and the site follows your browser.

Hosting

Cloudflare serves this site. Like any web host, it handles your IP address to deliver the pages and keeps short-lived request logs to run the service.
